Recap of the Evo 2010 flying characteristics

Ok, so I have been flying the evo for a year now and was really satisfied with the handling of the kite. The 9 metre felt a bit heavy in the beginning and needed some tweaking on my part before I was totally satisfied. But when you figure out the best settings it will fly faster and you will have all the more fun with it. I have had it with me on my holiday to Brasil, Cumbuco at the end of september, and I have only flown the nine metre and my 6 metre evo 2009. nothing else needed (except for a few caipirinha’s … ;(-)

To cut a long story short. Read all you really want to know about the Evo 2010 in my truth-list below:

 1.  The 2010 is built stronger than the 2009. the materials have stiffened up somewhat but this made the kite a bit heavier. Not necessarily a big improvement in my opinion.

 2.  The 10 metre is made lighter. So when looking for a massive lowend: you can either buy the 10 metre or the 9 metre depending on your other kites. My choice was the nine because I only have the 6, but the 10 should be good when you have more kites and want to fly with light winds. The 10 is made for that.  The nine is better suited for long downwinders imo.

 3. Turning speed could be quicker. Especially because this is a kite for wave riding and jumping really high and landing your first tricks.

4. The kite sits fairly deep in the powerzone which creates quite a lot of bar pressure. Like it or not. You tell me.

 5.  The smaller models of 2009 still rock!

 6. The evo can be flow on 5 and 4 lines. The fifth line can be a bit of a drama when kiting all day. The 2010 bar has been updated with an all important swivel. Get that one.

North evo 2010 9 metre review

  1. Hi

I cannot access your review (the link does not show).

I have currently a tribal 2 9m and looking to replace it with evo 2010 9m. The bar looks noticeably better and relaunch also appears much easier. What about the wind range compared to my tribal 2 however? in the north range what is actually closest to tribal 2 (just for reference to a kite i am familiar with): rebel - evo- vegas?

    Thx
    Sven

  2. Hey Sven.

    Want my advice?

    DO NOT SELL THE TRIBAL!!!!

dont get me wrong: the evo is a killer kite, but for old times’ sake, hang on dearly to the tribal if you get my drift.

Closest to the tribal is the north vegas. Has roughly the same outline doesnt it? But beware of the vegas, the 2008 is great they say and the 2010. it like wine: you just can not be sure if you are buying the right kite, the right size and the right year…..

  3. Just tested the 2011 9m for a hour or two.

Turns a bit faster and has a lighter feeling at the bar.

I hope to get my hands on a 12m to try also..
